Learning Chinese

When learning Chinese, do you find it slow and frustrating? Do you need to get up to speed quickly and be culturally aware?

If so, a tailored approach to your specific needs may be a faster option. We believe using a qualified teacher, who adjusts to your learning speed, will likely be a faster as well as a more effective path. We use a friendly and positive learning environment to build up confidence and maintain progress. Often we find the most effective communicator is perhaps not the most accurate but the one who is confident and willing to try.

Our courses are based on Beijing University teaching programmes/textbooks. So you will get structured learning content designed just for you based on your situation, skills and progress. However, if you wish we can follow a more casual approach (to your preference).

Teaching by a native Chinese Peoples Republic speaker with formal Mandarin pronunciation (trained and accredited by the PRC) means you will learn Chinese to a language standard that is acceptable at all levels of business and government. Note that with formal Mandarin accreditation, your teacher is required to have: formal pronunciation; fast Chinese reading, development of précis and speech writing skills; and competency writing +12,000 characters

Mandarin is different. Our target is for you to speak Chinese. In every training session Mandarin pronunciation will be exercised in dialogues that are designed for real-life situations.

We believe the fastest path to speaking Mandarin clearly and effectively includes learning to read and write in both Pinyin and simplified Chinese. So we will encourage you to read and write Chinese characters. These give a depth of understanding that will speed your ability to speak Mandarin.

Cultural Awareness

Cultural awareness is an important part of business. Over many years working both with Chinese and Western corporations we have seen many cultural mistakes that cost opportunities, relationships and money.

Behaviour, thinking patterns and social signals can easily be misunderstood. For both Western and Chinese nationals, our cultural awareness training focuses on business behaviour during contract negotiation, meetings, emails and social entertaining. It is vital for effective business negotiation.

We provide both short and in-depth courses for cultural awareness, assisted by role play and scenario development. Should you have a business meeting, or host an invited overseas guest, we ask that you consider this subject.
